How I Used Brand Clarity To Book 4 New Clients Before I Launched

Brand Your Business

Don’t let the title fool you. I launched my business and blog in June of 2017 to very limited success. I have been a brand developer for over 18 years and helped out on other blogs in the corporate sphere so I wasn’t completely clueless on what it takes to build a business. But for 6 months I struggled to get even one client to take me on.

When I decided to take my show on the road, leaving behind the security of a corporate salary and excellent benefits, I was excited. I was actually going to work for myself. I was not longer going to be a slave to the 9-5. I had big dreams and I couldn’t wait to get started. And that was my first and biggest mistake.

I was so ready to jump in I forgot to do for myself what I do for every single one of my clients. I was spurred on by the income reports of the many who came before me. Can you really make $100k a month writing a blog? And it was in my excitement and motivation to “just get going” that I made a near fatal mistake by not giving myself clarity around my brand.

Learn why you need brand clarity and how I used it to book 4 new clients before I launched my site.

My Business Before Brand Clarity

The first time I launched my business I had the energy of two toddlers after eating a bucket of Halloween candy. I wrote blog post after blog post giving branding tips and tricks I had learned over almost two decades. I was active on social media daily and was happy to offer up free advice to others on how to build their brands. It was amazing until it wasn’t.

Four month into my journey and I was burning out. I was waking up at 4 am every morning and immediately checking my stats. I would say a prayer every time I opened my inbox hoping I’d have someone who wanted me to help them design their brand. I would have settled for creating a logo for $50 if I could have because the bills didn’t stop rolling in and my kids have to eat.

At the end of the day I was too exhausted to do anything more than fall into bed, fully dressed, and pass out till my alarm reminded me I needed to start yet another day. My marriage suffered as you can imagine. I was testy and short with every one around me. And I was discouraged, and doubted myself more than at any other point in my life.

It wasn’t until the 5 month mark that I had I knew I had to make a change. If I continued on I’d end up miserable and more than likely divorced. I’d probably start collecting cats on top of it. So I decided to take my own best advice and take good hard look in the mirror and see what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t going to give up without a fight.

And that’s when I found my clarity. At the bottom of the barrel when life was about to crush me I sat down and forced myself to build a brand, from the ground up, and focus on nothing but that for a month.

What is brand clarity

Brand clarity is having a deep and thorough understanding of your business. That clarity and what you learn about your business is what drives it to success. It’s the foundation you build your entire business on. It’s the most important piece of the puzzle and something I work hard to find with all my clients, but hadn’t taken the time to give to myself. And it showed.

How to Find Your Clarity

I could have written a thousand blog posts about each step I took to find my clarity but instead I created a 7-day challenge designed to walk you through step-by-step how I not only gained clarity around my brand but boosted my business to new heights.

Each day of the challenge is designed to get you thinking differently about your business. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in business for years or haven’t opened up shop yet. The brand clarity challenge is designed to open your mind and think bigger about your business. And best of all it works. It helped me in so many ways, but it also helped my clients take their businesses to new levels of success.

What you will learn during the 7-Day Brand Clarity Challenge

Day 01 // Mission, Vision, and Values

These are the cornerstones to your brand. Everything you do or say will be based on these three principles. I will walk you through how to write your mission and vision statements and create values to back your your brand. This is where you start to emotionally connect with your audience and turn them from lookers to buyers to raving fans spreading your message far and wide.

Day 02 // Goals

On day two I will walk you through how to use your vision to set some really big goals for your business and how you can actually achieve them.

Goals are what keep us moving forward and keep our business growing and thriving. Knowing what goals to set and how to break them down into tasks you can accomplish can make all the difference.

Day 03 // Client Avatar

On day 3 I will show you how and why you need to know your ideal clients better than you know yourself. Once you know where you’re going and how you’re going to get there it important to understand and know the people who will help you reach your goals.

Day 04 // Personality

Day 4 is all about finding and using your brand personality to hook your audience on your message. If they like you they will do business with you. And brand personalities are rooted in psychology and human thinking. You will take a fun quiz to find your archetype and learn how to leverage it in your brand.

Day 05 // Finding Your Voice

Building off of days 3 and 4 we will look at how you develop your own unique voice. How you say things matter and the words you use and don’t use can make a large impact on your audience. This will give you a voice to use in your blog, social media post, and any other marketing you do.

Day 06 // Visual Brand Audit

Day 6 is all about your visuals. You will be taking a good hard look at your visual identity and making sure it matches your message. Does you logo truly appeal to your audience? Does it match your mission?

Day 07 // Strategy

The last day of the challenge is all about building a strategy to grow brand recognition and getting your message in front of your ideal clients. Find out which areas you need to focus your attention and boost your brand.

What you’ll get from the challenge

Each day I will send you an email outlining the challenge for that day along with a workbook for you to use to capture your ideas.

This challenge is designed to well, challenge you. I want you to dig deeper into your business and uncover the keys to your success.

Each day will build upon the next and by the end of day 7 you will not only have a firm foundation on which to build your brand but also the confidence and knowledge to go after your dreams.

Each of these challenges represent the exact steps I took to build my business to what it is now. It is also the steps I take with each and every client to give them an authentic brand built on their passion. What took me 6 months to learn the hard way you can get in a week.

Since taking the steps to get clarity around my brand I have seen my business explode. The first 6 months of business I had zero clients, by the time I had re-branded my business around this foundation I had 4 new clients working with me. And they were paying more me more. I now spend less time wondering what my next move will be and more time chasing my dream life.

This challenge is powerful and can change your business in ways you never thought possible.

  5. I just signed up for the 7-day challenge. I like to believe I have all the tools necessary to succeed even further but not sure how to put them into a better perspective to engage with my audience more.

    • Rachel, we all like t think that… but sometimes it just takes a little reflection to find the perspective we need to succeed. When I first started I thought “I’m a brand developer. I don’t need to do all this stuff. I know what I’m doing.” Yeah…no. It took me a while to get my perspective in the right place. Now I know who my audience is and how I should be presenting my business to them to get them engaged with my brand. Let me know how you like the 7-Day Challenge.

  8. Yes! Brand clarity is so important! I mean, if we aren’t sure of our main goals, and aren’t sure who we are trying to reach, it’s very unlikely that we will find good client matches!

    • Yes!! I preach this to my clients but in my mind, I thought I knew already. It wasn’t until I really sat down and did these simple things that I found out I was absolutely clear. Now I am and I cannot even describe the difference it has made in my business.
